3D Model of Ujjain Mahakal Temple Using Cardboard

Ujjain Mahakal Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a revered pilgrimage site in India. If you’re a fan of DIY projects and have a penchant for expressing your creativity, why not embark on a fascinating journey of crafting a 3D model of this sacred temple using cardboard? In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process, step by step, to create your miniature version of the Ujjain Mahakal Temple.

Note from Me
This project was originally designed for a Cricut machine, but I know many of you may not have one. That’s why I’ve created a printable template for this Ram Mandir 3D model. With this template, anyone can make it easily—just print, cut, and assemble using simple tools like scissors, file card, glue, and a little patience.

Materials Needed

  • File card (for structure & base) Buy Link
  • Glue ( Fevicol / Flexkwik / Fevibond )
  • Mouldit clay (for detailing domes, carvings & texture) Buy Link
  • Acrylic colors (for finishing & highlighting details)
  • Print Out Templates ( Check Below )
  • Cutter

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Template Printing
Print the temple template you’ve designed. This will guide all cuts and assembly for accurate proportions of the Ram Mandir.

Step 2: Cardboard Cutting (File Card)
Place the printouts over file card and trace. Cut the main structure—base platform, walls, pillars, arches, and shikhara (dome layers). Keep edges clean for snug joints.

Step 3: Detailing with Mouldit
Sculpt intricate features—carvings, trims, miniature statues, steps, and dome curves—using Mouldit clay. Smooth with a damp finger and let it set fully.

Step 4: Assembling the Pieces
Use the printouts as your map. Start from the base and walls, then add pillars and the shikhara. Glue firmly and allow each section to set before stacking the next.

Step 5: Painting with Acrylics
Paint the structure in white and orange to capture the iconic Ram Mandir look. Add subtle shading to pillars, steps, and carvings to enhance depth.

Step 6: Garland Decoration
Craft tiny garlands from crepe paper (thin strips twisted and looped). Attach gently to pillars and the entrance for a festive finish.
