What is Prabhavali Arc
The Prabhavali, also known as Prabha or Prabhamaṇḍala, is a traditional ornamental arch or aureole used in Indian art and architecture to frame deities in temples and shrines. This intricate backdrop, often crafted from metal, wood, or stone, symbolizes divine light and spiritual radiance. The Prabhavali is adorned with elaborate patterns, motifs, and symbols, representing the artistic heritage and religious significance of the culture. It is typically placed behind the deity’s idol, creating a halo effect that signifies the sacred and exalted nature of the divine presence. The Prabhavali not only enhances the visual grandeur of the deity but also serves as a focal point of devotion and reverence for worshippers.

Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1: Prepare the Prabhavali Frame
- Template: Download and print the Prabhavali template provided in the PDF file .
- Cut the Cardboard: Using the printed template as a guide, cut out the each layer frame of the Prabhavali from the cardboard.
Step 2: Build the Structure
- Layering : Each layer will be added stripes at the edges to add depth to the whole frame
- Align : Stick all the parts one by one using fevibond
- Glue the Edges : Use fevibond to stick the cardboard joints together, ensuring the frame is firmly assembled and apply a drop of flexkwik on the joint to increase the strength of the joints and frame
Step 3: Sculpt the Details
- Shape with Mould It Clay: Use the Mould It clay to create intricate designs and details on the Prabhavali. You can add traditional motifs, floral patterns, or any design that complements your theme.
- Attach the Details: Once you have sculpted the details, attach them to the cardboard frame using Fevicol glue. Allow it to dry completely.
Step 4: Add the Golden Touch
- Cover with Golden Foil Sheet: Cut the golden foil sheet into pieces that fit the various sections of your Prabhavali. Carefully apply Fevibond on the back of the foil and stick it onto the frame, smoothing out any wrinkles or bubbles.
Step 5: Final Assembly
- Secure the Backdrop: Ensure your Prabhavali backdrop is firmly secured to the place where your Ganpati idol will be placed. I have used iron wire on the back of the frame to make it stand at the back
- Finishing Touches: Inspect your Prabhavali for any gaps or loose ends. Add extra glue or clay as needed and let it dry completely before placing your Ganpati idol in front of it.
Tips for Best Results:
- Patience is Key: Take your time with each step to ensure the best results. Rushing can lead to mistakes.
- Experiment with Designs: Feel free to customize the design to match your unique style and the overall theme of your Ganpati decoration.
- Safety First: Be cautious when working with sharp tools and hot glue. Keep your workspace clean and organized to avoid accidents.
By following these steps, you can create a stunning Prabhavali backdrop that adds a divine aura to your Ganpati celebration. Enjoy the process and the beautiful result of your creativity and effort!

I was very impressed to see the YouTube video which shows how Prabhavali can be built with simple materials like cardboard and paper and clay. I have an alter that is built from Teakwood and has some gold leafing. But I was hoping to see if I can get a few more prabhavalis done for the smaller murtis I have on the altar. Could you please give me your contact information so we can start communicating about what we can do and if you’re OK with taking a phone call from me I would really appreciate it because I would like to buy some of these materials from you thank you very much. My email is in this communication on my name is Chetan Chavan.
